Grimoire is a native macOS app that runs Dungeons & Dragons combat from a single screen — initiative order, HP for every creature the DM is tracking at once, and an instant answer to the question that stalls every table: "is that against AC, or a saving throw — and which one, at what DC?" It exists to get paper, pen, and memory off the table.
A hard rule shapes everything: the app never plays the game. The dice stay real and every call is the DM's — Grimoire references and tracks, but never rolls or automates. Encounters arrive as a Claude-generated session file, so prep flows straight out of existing planning notes with one light step rather than a second place to maintain data.
Under the hood, all the combat rules live in a pure, fully unit-tested Swift package with no UI, and a thin SwiftUI layer handles presentation — the standard modular shape for a native app, and a deliberate learning vehicle for macOS development. The in-combat version is complete and already in live use at the table, where it runs a fight faster than paper. From there the ambition grows: a true "DM cockpit" that one day drives the whole scene, from session recaps to the lights and audio in the room.
